IT & DEPLOYMENT OVERVIEW

Dumontis provides a suite of Excel‑based applications that support operations, manufacturing, assembly, engineering, planning, scheduling, supply chain, and logistics professionals. Access to these tools is managed through a lightweight Excel add‑in that runs locally on the user’s machine. All operational and model data remain inside the customer’s Excel environment; no company or business data of any kind is transmitted or stored externally. The Dumontis License Manager add‑in communicates with the Dumontis server only for authentication and license validation.

This page offers IT departments a complete overview of the add‑in’s architecture, data handling practices, security measures, compatibility requirements, deployment steps, and update process. It is intended to support technical review, risk assessment, and smooth onboarding within corporate IT policies.

If your organisation requires procurement approval, the Procurement Guide provides licensing details, vendor onboarding information, and purchasing terms to support internal review and purchasing processes.

SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

The Dumontis License Manager (DLM) add‑in provides access to all Dumontis Excel‑based tools through a lightweight, secure, and locally executed architecture. The add‑in runs entirely inside Microsoft Excel and does not require any system‑level installation, external components, or integration with other applications. All calculations, models, and data processing occur locally on the user’s machine.

Local Execution

All Dumontis tools run entirely within the user’s local Excel environment. The add‑in does not require system‑level installation, external components, or cloud processing. All calculations, models, and workbook operations are performed directly on the user’s device, ensuring that the tools function as standard Excel files without additional runtime dependencies.

Add‑in Responsibilities

The Dumontis License Manager add‑in manages authentication and license validation inside Excel. It unlocks or restricts access to the tools based on the user’s entitlement and ensures that only licensed functionality becomes available. The add‑in provides activation, and version‑awareness but does not interact with operational or business data in the workbook.

Server Responsibilities

The Dumontis server validates the authenticated Microsoft account against the license database. It confirms which tool and version the user is entitled to access and returns the corresponding license status to the add‑in. The server does not process Excel content, does not interact with customer data, and is used solely for identity and entitlement verification.

Data Flow Overview

The architecture follows a simple request–response pattern: the end-user authenticates through Microsoft identity services, the add‑in requests license validation from the Dumontis server, and the server returns the entitlement result. Once validated, the tools operate locally within Excel. No operational, model or business data of any kind is included in this flow.

DATA HANDLING & PRIVACY

Dumontis Excel‑based tools are designed with a minimal and transparent data footprint. The add‑in does not access, transmit, or store any operational, model, or business data from the customer environment. Only the information required for authentication, licensing, and support is collected and processed.

Personal Data Collected

Dumontis collects only the personal information required to issue and manage a license. This includes the user’s name, Microsoft account email address, phone number (optional), company name, licensed product(s), and license expiry date. These details are provided voluntarily during the license request process and are used solely for license administration.

Data Processed During Authentication

When the user signs in through the add‑in, only the information required to validate the license is processed. This consists of the Microsoft identity token (SSO or MSAL), the Microsoft account identifier, and the entitlement request for the relevant tools. No additional personal or behavioural data is captured during authentication.

Data Not Collected or Transmitted

The Dumontis add‑in does not access, transmit, or store any operational, model, or business data from the customer environment. No Excel content, worksheets, formulas, calculations, usage logs, telemetry, or analytics are collected. All such information remains entirely within the user’s local Excel files under the organisation’s control.

Local Storage

The add‑in itself does not create or store Dumontis‑specific data on the user’s device. Only the standard Microsoft identity cache, managed automatically by SSO or MSAL, may be stored locally as part of Microsoft’s authentication framework. Any operational or business data entered into the Dumontis Excel tools is stored locally by Excel as part of normal workbook behaviour.

Connectivity Requirements

An active internet connection is required for authentication and license validation. The add‑in periodically checks license status to ensure that access remains valid. If the connection cannot be re‑established, the add‑in cannot confirm entitlement and the tools remain unavailable until connectivity is restored.

SECURITY MEASURES

Dumontis uses a security‑first architecture that protects identity, communication, and license data. All operational and business data remain inside the customer’s Excel environment; only minimal license‑related information is stored on the Dumontis server. The measures below describe how authentication, communication, and data storage are secured.

Secure Authentication

User authentication is handled exclusively through Microsoft identity services, using SSO for business accounts or MSAL for personal Microsoft accounts. Credentials are never processed or stored by Dumontis. The add‑in receives only a secure identity token, which is used to verify the user’s license and ensure that only authorised users can access the tools.

Encrypted Communication

All communication between the add‑in and the Dumontis server is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Only minimal license‑related metadata is exchanged, and no operational or business data is ever transmitted. SiteGround’s security infrastructure provides additional protection through a web application firewall, automated threat detection, and rate‑limiting of suspicious requests.

Server‑Side Security

License and user information is stored in a secured MySQL database hosted on SiteGround. The database is not publicly accessible and is protected by network isolation, strong authentication, and restricted administrative access. SiteGround provides encryption at rest, daily backups, malware scanning, and server‑level hardening to reduce the risk of hacking, impersonation, or data loss.

Operational Security

The Dumontis environment runs on a hardened SiteGround server protected by a web application firewall, malware scanning, and automated patching. The MySQL database is isolated from the public internet and accessible only through authenticated server‑side processes. All endpoints apply strict input validation and operate without elevated privileges, reducing the risk of hacking, impersonation, or data loss.

COMPATIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS

The DLM add-in is designed to run reliably within supported Microsoft Excel and Windows environments. This section outlines the technical requirements needed to ensure correct operation, including supported Excel versions, platform limitations, account prerequisites, and system expectations.

Excel Requirements

Dumontis tools and the DLM add-in are designed for the desktop version of Microsoft Excel for Windows. The tools depend on Excel’s full calculation engine and local execution model, which are not available in Excel for Mac or Excel for the Web. The tools operate as standard Excel workbooks and do not rely on macros, external components, or administrative installation.

Platform Requirements

The add-in supports Windows environments running Microsoft 365 desktop Excel. Excel for Mac and Excel for the Web do not support the advanced calculation engine, local execution model, or authentication flow required by the add-in and tools. This Windows‑only design ensures consistent performance, security, and full feature availability across all tools.

Account Requirements

Access to Dumontis tools via the add-in requires a valid Microsoft account, either through a Microsoft 365 business subscription or a personal Microsoft account. Authentication is handled through Microsoft identity services, and the user must be able to sign in to Excel with an account that supports Office add‑ins. No elevated permissions or administrative rights are required.

System Requirements

The add-in and the tools run on standard Windows configurations without the need for additional software or system‑level components. No special permissions, installations, or local services are required beyond a supported version of Windows and Microsoft 365 desktop Excel. All operations take place within the local Excel environment.
